Wheelers End Stern's Streak Saturday, June 24th , 2045 The Anchorage Wheelers got more than the 14-4 victory at The Blazing Kettle today -- they also put an end to the 21-game hitting streak of California Firehawks third baseman Sawyer Stern by holding him without a hit in 5 at-bats. After the game, Stern seemed more concerned with his team taking the loss than with the demise of his streak. "I had some great looks at some pitches that I should have hit," he said. "I missed some that I shouldn't have swung at. All in all, I wasn't much help with the bat today." To date this season Stern is hitting .345 with 12 home runs. |
