5 Straight Wins for Armadillos
|
Starting pitcher Harold Smith pitched well enough to help the Amarillo Armadillos beat the State College Swift Steeds , 8-5. Smith, now 7-8, was the winner. In 5.2 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. Calm Chicken, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 12th save.
The Armadillos got a big at-bat from center fielder Walter Walterson. For the game, Walterson went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Amarillo a 2-0 lead.
"We've got a great group of guys," Smith said, "and we're having fun right now."
The second-place Armadillos have won 5 straight.
