Toros Need Extra Innings to Top Scorpions, 6-4
The Cancun Toros outlasted the Death Valley Scorpions, 6-4, in 13 innings. Cancun shortstop Victor Cortez stood out with his performance. He went 3 for 6 with a home run and 2 doubles, while scoring 2 and driving in 5. Cancun reliever Roquefort Cotswald picked up the win. Dennis Martinez took the loss for Death Valley. Samuel Smoltz picked up the save, his 3rd.

Cortez had a game-changing home run in the top of the 13th. On a 2-2 circle change from Dennis Martinez, he banged a 2-run home run to center, giving the Toros a 6-4 lead. It was the 1st home run of the year for Cortez.

Said Cancun manager : "We squared some balls up."

Losses have been rare for the Scorpions, who are now 10-4.
