Sea Serpents Pin 5-2 Loss on Vancouver
|
Despite a fine performance by shortstop Brooks Walker, the Vancouver Vandals lost to the Seattle Sea Serpents, 5-2. Walker went 2-2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. The winning pitcher was Talk O'Bell. He tossed 113 pitches over 5.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits. At 55-41, Seattle is in second place in the Champions Conference West.
The Vandals had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Sea Serpents going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old left fielder Jim Hawkins came to the plate. Hawkins hit a 2-run double on a 2-1 screwball from Vancouver hurler Thor Lore. It was Hawkins's 34th double of the year.
"Winning never gets dull," said Hawkins.
