The first-place Cancun Toros took on the Buffalo Surge in front of a spirited crowd.

Toros designated hitter John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt put his stamp on his team's 3-2 win over the Buffalo Surge. Jingleheimer Schmidt was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk for Cancun in the contest. Cancun starter Nova Montagne was credited with the win after throwing 116 pitches over 5.2 innings. His record now stands at 12-4.

The Surge had been locked in a 2-2 tie with the Toros going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the two-time All-Star Loren Jackson came to the plate. Jackson hit a run-scoring double on a full count fastball from Buffalo hurler Meo Hooper. It was Jackson's 33rd double of the year.

"Our guys are never satisfied," said Cancun manager .

The Toros lead the Champions Conference West by 12½ games.
