The State College Swift Steeds downed the Brew City Bears, 8-1, at Walter Partlo Memorial Stadium at The Tap House. Stellar pitching by Derek Kirkland had a lot to do with it. The left-hander handcuffed his opponent all game. With the win, the Swift Steeds sit at 47-41.

Kirkland threw well for State College, thwarting the Brew City offense. The left-hander tossed 97 pitches over 8.2 innings. He allowed just 1 run on 3 hits.

"Derek -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Swift Steeds manager . "He was the key to us winning."
