Lennedy Stars as Wheelers Top Armadillos, 9-3
|
The Anchorage Wheelers defeated the Amarillo Armadillos, 9-3. Right Fielder Keon Lennedy deserved a large share of the credit. Lennedy went 2-3 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 4 for the Wheelers. The winning pitcher was Ivy Nurple. His record now stands at 10-11. The left-hander went 8.1 innings, allowing 3 runs on 10 hits for the Wheelers. The third-place Armadillos have lost 5 straight games.
Anchorage left fielder Logan Wetzel contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 85th hit of the season and put the Wheelers ahead, 7-3.
"I know we have our doubters," said Amarillo manager . "But I still have high hopes for this team."
