Getting offensive support from Brian Payne, the Amarillo Armadillos topped the State College Swift Steeds , 6-3. Payne was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times for the Armadillos. Chatty Johnson, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 12th save. The West Division-leading Armadillos are 58-38.

The game was at a stalemate until left fielder Palin Drome came to bat in the top of the eighth. Facing State College pitcher Twain Teetoo, he hit a 1-1 sinker for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Amarillo on top, 4-3.

"We'll kick back tonight and enjoy this win," said Drome.
