Narrow Win Takes California Streak to 7
|
The California Firehawks besoiled an otherwise fine performance by Puerto Rico first baseman A.J. Comyn by beating the Ranas, 4-3, at Kay Faraday Memorial Stadium. Comyn belted 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice. Jensen Wild, now 5-1, was credited with the win in 2.2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 2 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1. After today's action, California sits at 63-43; Puerto Rico slips to 41-65.
California used the timely hitting of Willard Bachmann to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Firehawks on top, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Winning breeds more winning, I guess," said Bachmann.
