California Takes 1-0 Series Lead Behind 6 RBIs from 1B Bonpensiero
As the California Firehawks and Anchorage Wheelers battled through extra innings, it was a rookie who made the difference.

Young California first baseman Salvatore Bonpensiero, 21 led the way with a strong hitting performance in the 14-inning marathon. Bonpensiero was 2-6 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 6 during the 15-6 California win over the Wheelers. The win gives the Firehawks a 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 First Round.

California used the clutch hitting of Gus Beavers to capture the win. The catcher drilled a 2-run double in the top of the 14th inning to give the Firehawks the lead, 8-6. For the game, Beavers had 2 singles and 1 double in 7 at-bats.

"Things broke our way today and that's great," Firehawks manager said. "It's important, though, to stay focused and not pat yourself on the back too much. We aren't done yet."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Balto Memorial Field at The Igloo in Providence.
