The 2068 season began for the Chicago Kingpins with a loss to the Amarillo Armadillos at The Jose Forty-Three Stadium. The final score was 14-8. Amarillo designated hitter Brendan Shimmy had a fine performance.

It could have been a different outcome for Amarillo, had it not been for Sidney Hughes, the slick-fielding second baseman . Hughes contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth inning to put Amarillo up, 6-4.

In postgame comments to the Amarillo Times, Shimmy said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
