Firehawks Take Down Swift Steeds , 6-5
|
The California Firehawks did just enough to sneak past the State College Swift Steeds , 6-5, at PBE Bigger Strange Podcast Stadium: Home of the Waterpigeons. California catcher Griselda Nikolopoulou, in particular, had a standout performance. Raul Chamgerlain got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. California goes to 4-0.
The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Rusty Menard came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing State College pitcher Kenji Matsumoto, he hit a 1-0 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting California on top, 6-5.
California manager was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
