The California Firehawks faced a tough opponent in State College pitcher Maddog Thornberry, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Count Longardeaux's Strong Badian Dictionary Fo' My Own Words Stadium by a final score of 7-6. Thornberry went 7.2 innings and allowed 3 runs. Josenacio Slothnacion got credit for the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. J.Y. Park closed the door for California, picking up his 2nd save of the year.

In the top of the eighth inning, Kanutake MeHire went deep for the Firehawks. With California trailing 5-1, he drilled a grand slam home run.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said MeHire, "but we got it done."

The loss puts State College at 6-4.
