Firehawks Win, 3-1, Versus Kansas City
|
In a low-scoring game between the California Firehawks and the Kansas City Hepcats, pitcher Dr. Hubert Malbec was the difference-maker. The California left-hander was tough as nails in the 3-1 Firehawks win. Malbec, now 1-1, was the winner. In 8.2 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Goro Shigeno got credit for the save for California. It was his 4th of the year.
California used a timely hit from Rafael Furcal Jr to get the win. The third baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Firehawks ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"Dr. Hubert pounded the strike zone and made good pitches when he needed to," said California manager .
The victory makes California 6-4, as the team seeks a return to the playoffs in 2074.
