Outer Banks pitcher Wombat Jones did his part in helping his team beat the Providence Crabs, 2-1. The left-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. The Aviators, at 17-25, inhabit last place in the Legends Conference East.
Had Speedy McFly Jr. not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 3rd, McFly Jr. hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Aviators.
Jones said the team appreciates the support from the fans. "I'm glad we could reward them with a good win," he said after the game.
