Aviators Get Clutch Win, 4-3
|
The Vancouver Vandals could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Holly Sheet into a win. Instead, the Outer Banks Aviators prevailed, 4-3. Sheet threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball. Outer Banks currently is in last place in the Legends Conference East at 19-26.
The Aviators were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 24-year old center fielder Bazooka Slow landed a big blow. He turned a 1-0 screwball from Alejandro Abasi into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the The Island denizens into a frenzy and sent the Aviators home with a thrilling 4-3 win.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Vancouver skipper , "and it cost us."
