Firehawks Tag Wheelers with 7-4 Loss
|
The California Firehawks weathered an outstanding game by Anchorage second baseman Slime Sluggerton to topple the Wheelers, 7-4. Sluggerton was 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. Jonny Tom, the winning pitcher, improved to 3-2. He pitched 7.2 innings, giving up 8 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 4. Chadison Bumgardener, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
Ivagotta Dumper helped his team take an early lead with a run-scoring single. It came in the first inning, making the score 2-0, Firehawks.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Dumper told the California Times. "It's as simple as that."
California, with the win, climbs to 8-15.
