Kingpins Sneak Past Hepcats, 6-5
|
Getting a good performance from third baseman Gumby Phillips, the Chicago Kingpins defeated the Kansas City Hepcats, 6-5. Phillips was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for the Kingpins. Leeroy Jenkins, 1-1, earned the win in relief. He allowed 2 runs on 5 hits in 2 innings. The save was credited to Beeg Yosh, his 2nd.
In the top of the eighth, Chicago right fielder Beryl Summers had a productive at-bat. With the bases loaded and two out, Summers stroked a run-scoring single to left. It made the score 6-4, Chicago. For the game, he went 3-4 with 3 singles. He drove in 2 runs.
"We'll hit the hot tub in good spirits tonight," said Summers.
