Bonpensiero Lifts Firehawks to 8-3 Win
|
Firehawks first baseman Salvatore Bonpensiero put his stamp on his team's 8-3 win over the Puerto Rico Ranas. Bonpensiero went 3-3 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for California in the contest. California reliever Rusty Shackleford picked up the win, raising his record to 4-0. Ottov Yeoj was tagged with the loss. The Firehawks, at 25-15, sit in first place in the West Division.
The Firehawks got an important contribution from designated hitter Zak Johnson III, who in the bottom of the third knocked a first pitch sinker into left for a 3-run home run. It was his 9th home run of the season and put the Firehawks ahead, 4-0.
Johnson III expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
