The Buffalo Surge opened their 2077 season with a disappointing 9-5 loss to the Providence Crabs at The Power House. First Baseman Beryl Summers was a big part of the win for Providence. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. The win belonged to Nathanael Abel in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Sofia Mondragón took the loss for Buffalo.

Providence used the clutch hitting of Migs Mayfeld to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a bases-clearing double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Crabs the lead, 9-5. For the game, Mayfeld had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Summers told the Providence Times.
