The Death Valley Scorpions had to overcome a big game from Cancun designated hitter Salvatore Bonpensiero to leave El Coliseo de los Toros with a victory. And they did, winning 5-4. Bonpensiero went 2-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 4 runs and scored once. The first-place Scorpions have won 7 straight.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Literal Flamingo came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Cancun pitcher LaPicante Sauce, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Death Valley on top, 5-4.
"Winning is contagious," said Flamingo. "We're looking forward to the next game."
