Flamingos Best Firehawks in Pitching Duel
|
Jay Kirkpatrick pitched a gem to lead Florida to victory over the California Firehawks, 1-0. In 7 innings, Kirkpatrick surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Colt Falcon earned the save for Florida, his 3rd of the year.
It could have been a different outcome for Florida, had it not been for Jim Hawkins, the 20-year old third baseman . Hawkins contributed a solo home run in the top of the second inning to put Florida up, 1-0.
Afterward, Flamingos manager was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
With the victory, the Flamingos upped their record to 26-21.
