Puerto Rico Absorbs 5-1 Loss to California
|
The California Firehawks faced a tough opponent in Puerto Rico pitcher Jean Girard [BOT], but did just enough to pull out the victory at Kay Faraday Memorial Stadium by a final score of 5-1. Girard [BOT] went 6 innings and allowed no runs. The Firehawks saw their win-loss record go to 23-30. At the same time, the Ranas fell to 12-41.
California needed the clutch hitting of Rafael Furcal Jr to seal the deal. The third baseman swatted a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Firehawks on top, 5-1. For the game, Furcal Jr had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Furcal Jr. "And not try to do too much."
