Wheelers 3-2 Winners Over California
|
The California Firehawks and Anchorage Wheelers provided some drama for the home crowd.
The Anchorage Wheelers beat the California Firehawks by a score of 3-2. Anchorage shortstop Robin Banks deserved the lion's share of the credit. Banks went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Wheelers. Ollie Damra, the winning pitcher, is now 6-4. He went 7.2 innings, allowing 2 runs on 7 hits, while fanning 1 and walking 2.
With Anchorage leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Banks hit a run-scoring single off California hurler Ingrid Keelhauler. It was the 33rd hit of the season for Banks and put his team ahead, 3-0.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said California skipper , "and it cost us."
Anchorage is now 25-34. California is 30-29.
