Amarillo beat Florida on the strength of starter Harold Smith's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 8-3. At 48-25, the Armadillos have a slim two-game lead in the West Division.

In the bottom of the fifth, Amarillo designated hitter Brent Goldberg had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 2nd and two out, Goldberg stroked a run-scoring single to right. It made the score 4-2, Amarillo. For the game, he was 2 for 4 with 2 singles.

"One win at a time, one game at a time. We try not to get too far ahead of ourselves," Smith told the Amarillo Daily.
