Juicy Jumbo Hurls No-No Against Lunar Base
Saturday, August 4th , 2074
Boise Raptors starter Juicy Jumbo said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Jumbo recalled.
The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Boise right-hander no-hit the Lunar Base Space Rangers, 4-0, at Hammond Park, finishing with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts, facing only 30 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Jumbo admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
Over the season Jumbo has thrown 121 innings and dished out 115 strikeouts with a 7-7 mark and a 4.31 ERA.
