Payne Slaps 5 Hits Monday, May 4th , 2076 Even as a kid, Brian Payne said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At The Thunderdome, Payne showed how well he learned that lesson. The 30-year-old catcher had 5 hits in 6 at-bats for the New York Voyagers, helping his team knock off the Vancouver Vandals by a score of 11-7. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did." Brian Payne grounded out in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Andy Beans in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Lucas Greep in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th, tripled in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
