The Outer Banks Aviators defeated the Providence Crabs, 8-7, at The Island. Outer Banks shortstop Abe Ghosty had a superb performance. He went 4 for 5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles. The winning pitcher was Lanky Schramm. He tossed 108 pitches over 5.1 innings, allowing 6 runs on 9 hits. "Lousy" describes the Providence performance in the early going.

The Crabs had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Aviators going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old designated hitter Ángel de la Fuerte came to the plate. de la Fuerte hit a 2-run double on a 2-1 sinker from Providence hurler Nathanael Abel. It was de la Fuerte's 4th double of the year.

"Trying isn't good enough in this league," said Ghosty. "You've got to get results."
