Eshleman III Spins No-Hitter
Saturday, September 1st , 2074
Louisville Lemurs starter Brian Eshleman III said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Eshleman III recalled.
The left-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The Louisville left-hander no-hit the Puerto Rico Ranas, 3-0, at Kay Faraday Memorial Stadium, finishing with 6 walks and 6 strikeouts, facing only 34 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Eshleman III admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
Thus far this season, Eshleman III has posted a 9-8 record, started 25 games, struck out 93 batters in 161.1 innings and compiled a 4.91 ERA.
